About
I am a DVM graduate from the Federal University of Pelotas, RS, Brazil, with a particular interest in Animal Reproduction. My interest in this field dates back to my childhood, as I grew up working on my family’s cattle and horse ranch. During my youth, I learned how to ride and train horses, which fostered my interest in pursuing my veterinary career.
After graduating from veterinary school, I worked as a stud farm veterinarian at a Crioulo farm (Cabanha Charqueada, Vale Verde, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil) during the 2013–2014 breeding season. After that, I had the opportunity to enroll in a Master’s Program in Animal Reproductive Biotechnology at São Paulo State University under the supervision of Dr. Marco Alvarenga. During my Master’s training, I worked with endometritis and embryo transfer in mares and several other ongoing projects in Animal Reproduction at the Sao Paulo State University.
Upon completing my Master’s, I had the opportunity to move to the United States to work in a large breeding center in Ada, Oklahoma, where I produced ~200 embryos/year from 2016–2018. Although I was content with my work, I felt the urge to pursue my other passions (i.e., discovering, learning new things, and teaching). Internally, I knew that staying in practice would not fully satisfy these aspirations; thus, I enrolled in a PhD program in Animal Reproductive Biotechnology at the São Paulo State
University in partnership with the University of Illinois, USA. During my PhD, I continued to work with endometritis, embryo transfer, semen projects, and cell therapy in horses and donkeys. After completing my PhD, I took on a position as a post-doctoral fellow at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine, where I am currently an Assistant Professor of Theriogenology.
